The 3rd edition of the African Port Awards took place on 23 November 2017 at the David Livingstone Safari Lodge and Spa in Livingstone, Zambia. The awards ceremony took place during a gala dinner held after the the PMAESA Investor Forum and Annual Conference 2017 held from 22 – 23 November at the same venue.
The port awards ceremony was by the presence of Hon. Brian Mushimba, Minister for Transport & Communications of the Republic of Zambia.
This forum gave the opportunity to distinguish four (4) ports of PMAESA for seven (7) competing awards:
- Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) of South Africa, winner for four (4) awards: Port of Durban (Best Container Terminal Productivity, Best Transhipment Port, Best Port Management Information System and Port of Saldanha (Best quay productivity).
- The Kenya Ports Authority for the price of the ‘best transit port of the sub-regional economies’ awarded to the port of Mombasa;
- The Seychelles Ports Authority for the ‘Best Performing progression for Traffic 2015 to 2016’ awarded to the Port of Victoria;
- The Namibian Ports Authority for the ‘Best Port policy for Capacity Building’ awarded to the Port of Walvis Bay.
The ports that provided information and transmitted information for statistical and operational data were cited and encouraged to continue providing information.
